The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will
kick off the 2014 youth baseball and softball season with a player’s clinic at
Henderson Complex, 500 Forest Lawn Drive, from 10 a.m. to noon. This
event was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 5, but has been changed to
Saturday, April 12. Open to all baseball and softball players ages 8 – 15,
participants will be taught the basics of catching, hitting, fielding, and base
running. Immediately following the players clinic, the Department will host the
1st Annual Kick Off Classic.
“This is a great
opportunity for our youth to learn more about the game of baseball and
softball. It will be a day of learning
as well as a day of fun,” said Dr. Norman C. Merrifield, director of Richmond’s
Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities. “Hosting a
tournament is a great occasion for our youth to showcase the baseball and
softball skills that they have been practicing over the last few weeks. The
game of baseball and softball are teaching our youth team work and good
sportsmanship; as well as teaching them the importance of physical activity.”
The clinic is free
and open to all. For more information, please contact Wallace Parham at (804) 646-8235
