The Summer Meals for
Kids program was established by the United States Department of Agriculture to
ensure that children had access to healthy meals during the summer months. In
the Richmond metro area, the program operates Monday through Friday, June 15
through August 28.
“The goal of the USDA
Summer Meals for Kids program is to ensure that no young person will be hungry
this summer as many children may only obtain healthy meals during the school
year,” said Dr. Norman C. Merrifield, director of Richmond’s Department of
Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities.
